While searching for one of my images in my files, I suddenly became contemplative and grateful, since I got aware about the rich, colourful, brave, creative and the otherness of all my creations. Grateful for the big freedom and the given opportunities to be authentic and to always do what I had in mind – thankful for the trust of my clients, partners and my team. They support me, they strengthen me and they make it possible that I can handle it as art. This development made those projects and all the creations of “Christine Leja architects” to very special “living concepts”, because every and each one is an authentic & individual artwork. I am proud of this crazy & colourful potpourri 🙂 Thanks for the support! Christine Leja
I remember, when I visited 1 1/2 years ago a kind of a meaningless flat in the second floor, that I was trying to figure out the potential, the possibilities, the good thing about that property – but non of that was obvious and I was hardly getting a vision. The main reason to step into that challenge, was the anomalous size – at least in that neighbourhood – and nothing more. It was a new experience to plan something without having already a holistic vision in my mind. I just had the 4 walls as limitation and a south facing orientation. No idea, if the officials will allow me a terrace and I had no clue if there will be somehow a view….simply a risky undertaking. …But I love challenges and I am trustful to be able to realise a unique and coherent beauty. My guidance is my creativity, my experience, my incredible strong team and my love for special living concepts. Each result is a new experience which leads me to the next challenge. Thanks to my entire team!
Bringing life & soul into a big open space without colour eye-catchers – and staying in just all kind of white nuances and shades made it even more interesting. You are getting much more sensible for small differences and details and you value each light stripe, each nuance and every surface. I am very satisfied and happy with the outcome 🙂
Contriving a new beach bar concept with all dissoluteness and braveness and no special specifications is a wonderful mission and a great opportunity to give a novel ambiance to the entire neighbourhood and maybe an inspiration to change the spirit of the entire area. Converting an old building with a long existing bar into a cool & special hip spot, means a big change by construction, by replacing, by transforming and finally rebuilding and making the vision come true.
The spirit of the new concept is “Miami at its best” with the typical colours, combinations and the old style of kitsch. Pastel candy colours, Neon, different patterned fabrics, wallpapers, …just a “Miami vice” memory. Let`s wait the result – opening soon 🙂
By the way – it is always a pleasure to be creative for and with plucky and inspired clients 🙂
Today I know, that my journey to L.A. was not only a wonderful leisure trip – it was THE inspiration for our new home. The spirit, the colours, the tropical vegetation, the easy & brave combinations, the openness and the laid back lifestyle encouraged me, to bring with me this feeling and to create our new environment with the same spirit. The challenge was to translate my own feelings to originate the own “sunshine state” in the way that it is not just a decorated home, that it is my living space with my favourite colours with my beloved items. Piece by piece, colour by colour, tiles here & there, collector items, as the “Elettra chairs from BBPR“, the “Arne Jacobsen” egg chair, tables from “Pierre Guariche“, brass lamps from “Lindholdt”, ….materialised this deep imported L.A. emotion. My unrestricted way of mixing materials, surfaces, colours and styles without necessary justification or explanation made me free & brave and made the desire come true. I am in love with our “sunshine state”. Greetings to L.A. 🙂

A friend and colleague asked me, if I can imagine to ensoul his new built villa which he sold to an elder Irish family. Very honest and with a clear self-knowledge, he admitted, that it is a plain shell with the missing touch. After a first look at the property and meeting once the new owners, I decided to take care of this task. The villa has one of the most beautiful sea view – is south orientated, spacious rooms and no “curlicues” and therefor a good base to create an atmosphere. Thanks to the new owners for their trust and their brave “laissez faire” – which gave me the possibility in creating an entire concept. Sofas, chairs, beds, tables, tailor made shelves and writing desk, art, bed linen, lamps, books, spoons, soaps, sideboards, fruit tray, towels, flower pots, sun beds, umbrellas, curtains,….and much more…..were needed to make this property into a cozy and lively home. Not going for the most obvious style – modern & straight lines – instead deciding for a stylistic incongruity – was maybe the best solution to unite the needs of the new owner with the plain & straight lines of the property. I am happy to know, that the residents are more than content and that they feel “at home”!
I would like to start with Claude Monet`s words: “Color is my day-long obsession, joy and torment.”
After seeing an artwork of Rafa Forteza, a well known Spanish artist, I had it more than clear, that I “need” to see more of his art and to meet him. An artist who has definitely a similar color obsession. Spontaneous and brave, I called him and asked him, if he please invites me into his studio …. maybe not the most common way of getting invited, but at least a way, to get there 🙂 Rafa Forteza – a “freethinker”, a unconventional person and a nonconformist – far away from “snatching fame” and far away from publicity and marketing actions, welcomed me in his studio in such a open hearted way, that I felt immediately familiar and”at home” with his special world and his colourful sphere. It was, like escaping from reality, without being sure, which of both is reality. As soon, as I get closer to art, my heart starts to beat and my subconscious gives me clear signs, that art is part of my life and that I need this spirit & inspiration, like I need air to breath! As Friedrich Schiller says: “Art is the daughter of freedom.”
Thank you Rafa, for that wonderful morning in your studio!
Looking at contemporary Spanish art, one cannot fail to discover the majorcan artist Rafa Forteza (born 1955). His diverse oeuvre includes painting and sculpture. His graphic work, which was in part realized in the workshops of Joan Miro and Tristan Barbara, enjoys an international standing. In an expressive style, Forteza creates a haunting world of images that alternates between abstraction and figuration, between reality and concept, and that speculates and manifests.

There are special situations, objects, colors, songs, activities or aromas, which makes you remember to your dream or maybe it is simply a memory of ancestry. But you feel, that your heart opens up and there is a deep connection.
During my whole life – one of my most important values was & is freedom and freedom as a life concept. Maybe therefor, Gypsies, nomads & wanderer always inspired me.
